COVID-19 Policy for Back-to-School 2024/25
As we prepare for the upcoming school year at The Morgan Oliver School, the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community remain our top priority. With the current surge in COVID-19 cases, we are implementing a comprehensive COVID-19 policy based on the latest guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Our policy emphasizes a multi-pronged approach to prevent infection, which also helps reduce the spread of other illnesses. This approach includes masking, clean air practices, hand hygiene, staying home when sick, and staying up to date on vaccinations.
Current COVID-19 Situation
COVID-19 cases are on the rise, as indicated by recent data from CDC wastewater surveillance. The virus continues to be a leading cause of death, highlighting the importance of our efforts to prevent its spread.
Multi-Pronged Approach to Prevention
Masking
All students, staff, and visitors are encouraged to wear masks indoors, especially in situations where social distancing is not possible. Masks should fit properly, covering both the nose and mouth.
Clean Air Practices
We will use air filters in classrooms and common areas to improve air quality. Outdoor activities will be prioritized whenever possible to reduce the risk of airborne transmission.
Hand Hygiene
Regular hand washing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds will be enforced. Hand sanitizing stations will be available throughout the school for frequent use.
Staying Home When Sick
Anyone exhibiting symptoms of illness should stay home to prevent spreading infections to others.
Parents are encouraged to monitor their children for symptoms and keep them home if they are unwell.
Vaccinations
Staying up to date on vaccinations is crucial. Combination COVID+Flu vaccines will hopefully be available in September. It is safe to receive both the COVID-19 and flu vaccines simultaneously, and doing so can significantly reduce the risk of severe illness and hospitalization. For more information, refer to the CDC Vaccine Recommendations.
Community Care in Action
By adhering to these guidelines, we not only protect ourselves but also contribute to the well-being of our entire community. This collective effort is a form of community care, demonstrating our commitment to each other's health and safety.
Conclusion
We understand that these measures may require adjustments and patience from everyone involved. However, our collective efforts will make our school a safer place for learning and growth. Thank you for your cooperation and dedication to maintaining a healthy school environment.
