About Dave

Dave Howland has been a champion for students in Atlanta for nearly 20 years. He is a dedicated leader in the fight for educational equity and believes all students deserve the right of an excellent education.

Dave’s path to Teach For America began in 2004 as a corps member in Atlanta, GA. In 2006, Dave joined KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools as a middle school English teacher at KIPP WAYS Academy. After four years, Dave was selected by the KIPP Foundation to be a Fisher Fellow and be the founding school principal of KIPP Atlanta Collegiate High School, KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools’ first high school. In 2015, Dave was awarded Principal of the Year by Atlanta Families’ Award for Excellence in Education. After seven years as principal, Dave transitioned to the KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools regional team where he served as Managing Director of External Relations, overseeing development, communications, and political advocacy, for KIPP Metro Atlanta’s 11 schools and 5,100 students.

In 2021, Dave returned to the organization where his career in education began, becoming Executive Director of Teach For America Metro Atlanta. As Executive Director, Dave’s leadership impact extends across 55 school partners and 6,000 students that Metro Atlanta corps members currently educate. Teach For America Metro Atlanta’s partnerships with schools, districts, and communities enables its network of over 2,000 leaders (alumni and corps members) who are collectively working to expand opportunity for children.

Dave holds a Bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Rochester and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from National Louis University. Dave was a member of the LEAD Atlanta Class of 2014 and the Leadership Atlanta class of 2023. He lives in Grant Park with his wife and kids.
